Members of the WTO Council for Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) remained divided over the need for disclosure of origin of genetic resources and traditional knowledge in patent applications at a recent meeting, according to reports.

The TRIPS Council met from 14-15 June 2005 in Geneva. Prior to the Council meeting, informal consultations were held on the relationship between the TRIPS Council and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Consultations are expected to continue.
