Trinidad and Tobago Holds Workshop on Payment for Ecosystem Services
story highlights

A workshop on payment for ecosystem services (PES) held in Trinidad and Tobago focused on how to value the goods and services that ecosystems provide to people, so that development policy and decision making can reflect the true cost of using nature, in order to support development and growth.

25 May 2012: Trinidad and Tobago held a three-day workshop of scientists, economists and policy makers as part of the Project for Ecosystem Services (ProEcoServ), which is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

The workshop, which took place from 23-24 May 2012, in Port of Spain, focused on how to value the goods and services that ecosystems provide to people, so that development policy and decision making can reflect the true cost of using nature, in order to support development and growth.

The country will also test an innovative approach whereby the State will purchase ecosystem services on behalf of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. [IISD RS Sources] [ProEcoServ Website]
