Transnational Institute Fellows Discuss Green Economy Concept in Practice
story highlights

The Transnational Institute (TNI) convened a discussion and interviews, via video, on green economy, one of the themes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

June 2011: The Transnational Institute (TNI) held a meeting for its fellows and other activists and academics to discuss global issues such as a green economy, as well as the Arab Spring, the global resource grab and climate justice. The discussions on green economy, which were conducted via video interview by TNI fellows in June 2011, focused on the meaning of the concept in practice. Yao Graham of the Third World Network highlighted that the reality in Africa is of a new scramble for resources by former colonial powers and new emerging economies, with few benefits for the majority of Africans. According to Brian Ashley of South Africa’s “Amandla” magazine, the environmental crisis cannot be separated from the economic crisis, which is the reason for the campaign in South Africa for one million climate jobs. Gonzalo Berron, Trade Union Confederation of the Americas, shared plans by Brazilian civil society for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). [TNI Video Interviews]
