June 2008: The Third African Ministerial Conference on Financing for Development will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 12-13 June 2008. Discussions will focus on the
theme “Climate Change, an additional challenge for meeting the MDGs in Africa.”

The Conference will seek to develop a strengthened African voice on climate change issues in future international negotiations and G8 discussions, as well as to sensitize African governments about climate change risks and the urgency of mainstreaming adaptation into national policies and planning, identify how to exploit new financing instruments and mechanisms, and permit participants to
share best practices and success stories on climate change. The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the African Development Bank (ADB) have set up a permanent Secretariat to support and advise the Ministerial African Conference series, based on a decision at the Second Conference in
Accra in May 2007. [Rwanda to Host the Third African Ministerial Conference on Financing for Development]
