IEA Bulletin Calls Attention to Renewable Energy Technologies, New Partnership

The IEA's 82nd issue of their OPEN Energy Technology highlights, among other issues: Irish roadmaps to a sustainable energy future; exploiting the full potential of energy efficiency; and the new IEA-IRENA partnership to strengthen technology and policy cooperation.

IEA15 February 2012: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released the 82nd issue of the OPEN Energy Technology Bulletin, which includes information on renewable energy headlines, publications, proceedings and websites, as well as upcoming renewable energy events.

The Bulletin highlights Irish planning for a sustainable energy future, including three new energy technology roadmaps on wind power, smart grids and electric vehicles, which would save more than 250 million tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2050. The Bulletin also includes a focus on the use of document “IEA 25 Energy Efficiency Policy Recommendations” to exploit the full potential of energy efficiency as well as the new IEA-International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) partnership to strengthen technology and policy cooperation, including via a joint database of renewable energy policies and increased collaboration between the two agencies at the Secretariat level, among other efforts.

The Bulletin also outlines new IEA international research and development (R&D) projects within the programmes on Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (HEV IA), Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC IA) and Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems (ECBCS IA) and publications, including: Methodology Guidelines on Life Cycle Assessment of Photovoltaic Electricity; Energy Policies of IEA Countries – The Slovak Republic – 2012 Review; and the latest newsletters and annual reports from IEA programmes.
