The toolkit, launched by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and international partners, is used to calculate energy savings in residential building projects, on the basis of which financial support can be provided for the refinancing of housing loans.
14 September 2012: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), together with the German Development Bank (KfW), the Indian National Housing Bank (NHB), and Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP), have released an energy efficiency toolkit for buildings, called “IT Toolkit: Resbuild India,” which calculates the energy performance of residential building projects, and provides the basis for refinancing housing loans.
Users can enter general information on building projects such as building materials, geometry, and utility technologies, to calculate the projected energy demand and identify possible areas for energy savings within a certain budget range in comparison to a reference building. The assessment tool is based on a standard from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 13790) and is validated for different climate zones of India.
The toolkit was launched under the aegis of the “Promotional programme for energy efficiency in new residential building,” which includes a labeling and certification mechanism for energy savings in buildings. Under this program the energy savings potential identified by the toolkit can be used by lending institutions to apply for financial support from KfW and NHB to fund purchases of certified energy efficient apartments.
