15 June 2012: At a high level roundtable held on 25 April 2012, in Stockholm, the Swedish Government pledged €7.5 million to a fund of the Climate for Development in Africa Program (ClimDev-Africa).

ClimDev-Africa was established to finance demand-driven projects in Africa for generating and disseminating climate information to all levels of society, and requires €20 million to begin operations. The ClimDev-Africa partners, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), sponsored the event which was hosted by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The meeting chair, Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, SIDA Director General, pointed out that the meeting was timely in the context of the Stockholm+40 Partnership Forum for Sustainable Development and the UN Conference for Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
