Sustainable Cities 2012 Highlights Case Studies of Sustainable Urban Development

The publication features articles on a variety of issues relating to sustainable urban development, including: participation; engagement and benchmarking; measuring sustainability; financing urban infrastructures; cities' role in the green economy; and tackling climate change through city collaboration.

It also includes interviews with the mayors of six cities that have planned and implemented sustainable urban development.

June 2012: Green Media, in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative, C40 Cities, ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, the International Association of Public Transport, and the World Green Building Council, has launched the 2012 edition of “Sustainable Cities: Building cities for the future,” a publication promoting sustainable urban policy and procurement.

Sustainable Cities 2012 contains case studies from around the world on how to build sustainable cities. It also includes interviews with the mayors of six cities that have planned and implemented sustainable urban development: Sydney, Australia; Sant Cugat, Spain; Marburg, Germany; Portland, Oregon, US; Hamburg, Germany; and Bogotá, Colombia.

The publication features articles on a variety of issues relating to sustainable urban development, including: participation; engagement and benchmarking; measuring sustainability; financing urban infrastructures; cities’ role in the green economy; and tackling climate change through city collaboration. Other articles focus on energy and power, telecommunications, mobility and transport, water and sanitation, waste management, and safety and security.
