11 June 2010: The Stockholm Convention Secretariat, with support from the World Health Organisation (WHO), convened a training programme on strengthening country capacities to implement Integrated Vector Management (IVM) programmes towards reducing the reliance on DDT in selected countries in Africa. The training took place from 7-11 June, in Nairobi, Kenya. Strengthening in-country decision-making on IVM is one of the five themes of the Global Alliance on DDT implementation strategy towards achieving its goals with specific focus to overcome the complexity and cost of implementing alternatives to DDT. The aims of the training were to support the development of in-country capacity for implementation of all available WHO-recommended tools while facilitating the adoption of new tools with cross sector coordination to implement IVM approaches. Participants included public health officers and environmental health officers and district level staff from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
