January 2010: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) is preparing for the celebration of World Wetlands Day, on 2 February 2010, under the theme “Forests for Water and Wetlands.” To this end, SPREP has prepared a brochure highlighting the role of forested wetlands, such as mangroves and freshwater swamps, in maintaining freshwater resources, storing carbon, conserving biodiversity, and promoting community livelihoods and cultural heritage.
