SPREP Hosts First Training for Clean Pacific Campaign

The workshop explored waste minimization options, such as composting techniques, recycling options, and awareness programmes, as well as marine pollution issues and issues related to the disposal of waste including electronic/electrical goods, asbestos and hazardous chemicals.

13 February 2012: The first training for the Clean Pacific Campaign highlighted waste minimization options and issues related to marine pollution and the disposal of electronic/electrical goods, asbestos and hazardous chemicals. Hosted by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the workshop was part of SPREP’s designated campaign for 2012, which is encouraging improved management of waste and pollution in the Pacific.

The workshop took place in Nadi, Fiji, from 13-17 February 2012. Waste minimization options explored by the workshop included: composting techniques, recycling options, and awareness programmes. The workshop was co-funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with assistance from the Nadi and Lautoka Municipal Councils, and OISCA International in Fiji.
