The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), in collaboration with national governments and supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM/UN Women), undertook six assessments in response to regional ministerial calls for the Pacific to meet its gender equality commitments.
The project also supported the design and implementation of concrete, evidence-based strategies to enable gender mainstreaming.
24 April 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has published gender mainstreaming assessments of the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Tonga, which were completed from 2009-2010. Each national government was assessed for its capacity for gender mainstreaming, and potential areas for strategic intervention to strengthen capacity were identified.
The assessments were undertaken in response to regional ministerial calls for the Pacific to meet its gender equality commitments. SPC assessed the mechanisms, policies and resources in place to enable gender mainstreaming across government programmes, and also collaborated with national governments and development partners in the design and implementation of concrete, evidence-based strategies to enhance this enabling environment.
The assessments were conducted in collaboration with national governments, and supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM/UN Women).
