The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) has joined the Consortium of Scientific Partners of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), becoming its 16th member and the first from Africa.

20 May 2011: The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) has joined the Consortium of Scientific Partners of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), thus becoming its 16th member and the first from Africa.

The signing ceremony took place on 19 May 2011, in Incheon City, Republic of Korea, on the occasion of a meeting of a consortium hosted by the National Institute of Biological Resources of the Republic of Korea. The meeting was convened to consider the contribution of the Consortium to the implementation of the decisions of the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the CBD, as well as the celebration of the UN Decade on Biodiversity.
