6 June 2011: The UN Office of Partnerships (UNOP) and Landmark Ventures, a financial advisory firm, hosted the Social Innovation Summit, a private event dedicated to connecting and inspiring a network of global Fortune 500 business, investment, foundation, and community leaders, aiming to create positive social impact.

The Summit, held on 6 June 2011, at UN Headquarters, in New York, US, discussed the potential of social innovation, its impact on development and its role in the context of a multilateral system. Coordination was highlighted as one of the key elements of a collaborative partnership, along with the integration of lessons-learned at the community level and creating and sharing knowledge.

The Summit explored several themes, including the role of social media activism, creating socially responsible technology enterprises, the intersection between environment and sustainability, and innovative and sustainable corporate engagement practices beyond traditional corporate social responsibility.
