AfDB27 February 2013: Sierra Leone, with technical assistance from the African Development Bank (AfDB), announced that it has intensified its commitment to mainstream green growth into development plans, following a recent AfDB mission to the country.

Members of the AfDB’s Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department (ONEC) and the Sierra Leone Field Office (SLFO) undertook to progress efforts for mainstreaming green growth into Sierra Leone’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) – (2013–2017), titled “Agenda for Prosperity.” They outlined expected benefits from mainstreaming green growth into the PRSP, including ensuring and enhancing: “high quality” economic growth; Sierra Leone’s international reputation; and resilient and competitive economies. The AfDB stressed that it would use multi-stakeholder collaboration to prepare an action plan and results framework of the PRSP, which focuses on green growth approaches adapted to the country’s specific circumstances.

The mission took place from 4-8 February 2013, and is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that Sierra Leone engages in efforts to include inclusive, green growth in its national plans. [AfDB Press Release]
