SIDS Newsletter Highlights UNCSD Preparations, SIDSnet Revitalization
story highlights

In addition to the sub-regional preparatory meetings for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), this issue of the "SIDS Newsletter" highlights preparations for the launch of the revitalized SIDSnet.

SIDS Newsletter August 2011 issueSeptember 2011: The August 2011 issue of the “SIDS Newsletter,” published by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ (UN DESA) Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Unit, features articles on the three sub-regional meetings – in the Caribbean, Pacific, and Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and South China Seas (AIMS) regions – that took place in preparation for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

As an input to these meetings, DESA and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) commissioned a paper titled “Green Economy in a Blue World,” which focuses on SIDS’ concerns in the context of the UNCSD.

The newsletter also highlights the SIDS Unit’s preparations for the launch of the revitalized SIDSnet, which took place during the UN General Assembly’s 66th session. Alongside each of the sub-regional UNCSD preparatory meetings over the past few months, a regional consultation workshop took place to gather feedback on the online platform as it is being developed. Stakeholders currently are invited to view the site, offer feedback, and submit content contributions. [Publication: SIDS Newsletter, Vol. 2, Issue 3] [SIDSnet]
