SIDS Awards Launched to Recognize Renewable Energy Pioneers

The Ashden Awards have launched the Small Island Developing States Awards, which are open to enterprises and programmes that are increasing renewable energy use and promoting energy efficiency in SIDS, and bringing economic and social benefits while reducing carbon emissions.

September 2012: Ashden has announced the new Small Island Developing States Awards, which aim to recognize renewable energy pioneers from small island developing states (SIDS).

The SIDS Awards are supported by the World Bank and SIDS DOCK, and are open to “innovative” enterprises and programmes that are: increasing renewable energy use and promoting energy efficiency in SIDS; bringing economic and social benefits while reducing carbon emissions; and using approaches that can be replicated across SIDS. Two awards will be presented, and the winners will receive £20,000 cash prizes, as well as media exposure, business advice and access to new networks, and a video about their work.
