29 January 2013: The January 2013 newsletter of the UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Initiative provides updates on new SE4All initiatives on future global energy challenges, women’s health and energy, and recent meetings.

The newsletter highlights the start of the Global Thematic Consultation on Energy, a stakeholder consultation process to identify a shared vision on global future energy challenges and the integration of this vision into the post-2015 development agenda. The Consultation is part of a larger set of national and thematic consultations being managed by the UN Development Group (UNDG), which are being conducted both online via the the World We Want 2015 platform, and face-to-face.

The newsletter also draws attention to: the UN General Assembly’s (UNGA) resolution on 2014-2024 as the Decade for Sustainable Energy for All, adopted on 21 December 2012; the latest SE4All High Impact Opportunity on energy and women’s health, which focuses on energy provision for urgent medical care; the SE4All Global Tracking Framework, which concluded a first round of methodological consultations in November 2012, and will issue a new report early February on the basis of a second consultation round; and updates on the January 2013 Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the World Future Energy Summit (WFES).
