SDG Projections Illuminate UN Secretariat Building
story highlights

The UN Secretariat Building in New York, US, was illuminated with projected images of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in advance of the three-day UN Sustainable Development Summit, at which Heads of State and Government are expected to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the SDGs.

The projections - which also included images related to the UN's 70th anniversary - were produced by filmmaker Richard Curtis and developed in collaboration with the Global Goals campaign and 59 Productions, and the footage will be edited into a four-minute film that will be presented at the Global Citizen Festival on 26 September 2015, and broadcast as part of international coverage of the event.

The 2030 Agenda is expected to be adopted on 25 September 2015 during the opening plenary of the Summit. The Summit will be preceded by an address by Pope Francis. UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Goodwill Ambassadors Shakira and Angélique Kidjo will then perform and Malala Yousafzai will share a message with 193 young youth representatives from all UN Member States. Once the Agenda is adopted, every SDG will be read out by a group of different people, including female presidents, young children and celebrities, among others.

The Summit will continue until 27 September, and include plenary sessions for statements, as well as six interactive dialogues on themes set out by the UN General Assembly earlier this year.
