idlo-cbdAugust 2013: Launched in 2012 as a partnership between the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), with support from the Japan Biodiversity Fund, the Legal Preparedness for Achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets initiative aims to build a global network of researchers to develop innovative legal approaches to achieve goals related to the Aichi targets, included in the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.

The initiative was expanded in 2013-14 with support from the German International Cooperation (GIZ) Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) Capacity Development Initiative and the Swiss Federal Office of the Environment to train lawyers, promote new thinking and find practical ways for countries to use law to help achieve the Aichi targets. The initiative is currently seeking legal researchers to join the network. [IDLO Webpage on the Legal Preparedness Initiative]
