Wmo16 July 2014: The International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC) adopted the ‘Policy on the Exchange of Hydrological and Meteorological Data and Information in the Sava River Basin’ during its 35th session.

The policy was developed as part of a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) project titled ‘Building Resilience to Disasters in Western Balkans and Turkey,’ funded by the EU. The session, which took place from 6-7 June 2013, agreed on, inter alia: development of a data exchange policy for the basin; improvement of the existing data exchange system; coordination and harmonization of measurements at border stations; and an upgrade of the existing hydrological and hydraulic models.

The policy aims to facilitate implementation of the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin (FASRB), which entered into force on 29 December 2004, and to harmonize provisions on information exchange and data collection in various bilateral agreements into a common coherent framework. The ISRBC was established by the FASRB and its member States include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia. The Sava is a tributary of the Danube River. [WMO Press Release]
