Rio+20 Secretariat Offers Capacity Building Workshops to Major Groups
story highlights

The Rio+20 Secretariat continues to convene workshops for Major Groups on the margins of the Rio+20 planned Regional Preparatory Meetings (RPMs) and in cooperation with the UN Regional Commissions, to build their awareness on the themes of sustainable development.

24 January 2012: Since December 2011, the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) Secretariat has been carrying out a series of capacity building workshops for Major Groups.

As part of implementing paragraph 21 of UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/64/236 encouraging the active participation of all Major Groups, the Rio+20 Secretariat, in partnership with the Stakeholder Forum, and with the support of the European Commission Directorate General for the Environment, is continuing the series of capacity-building workshops offered on the margins of the five Rio+20 Regional Preparatory Meetings (RPMs).

The ongoing workshops aim to enhance awareness of the themes of sustainable development and build capacity of Major Groups to engage productively in the Rio+20 process. The latest workshop took place on 24 January 2012, in New York, US. [Rio+20 Webpage on Capacity Building]
