6 May 2011: REN21 has published an interview with Eric Martino, Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies, outlining plans for a REN21 Renewables Global Futures Report for 2012.

Noting growing consensus that a major energy transition will be taking place in coming decades, Martinot said the report will capture current thinking on the future of renewables between 2020-2050, and will explore a range of possible scenarios. He added that, while not aiming at being a scenario report, it will explain and deconstruct some of the most likely scenarios and discuss how scenario results have changed over recent years. He explained that the report will aim to be less technical than most current scenario-based reports.

Underlining the political, economicand ecological relevance of the report, Martinot underscored the challenge of understanding and discussing the future of renewables due to the diverse and often divergent literature currently addressing the issue. He indicated that the Renewables Global Futures Report will offer a clear and concise synthesis of this work. Initial plans, subject to change, are to include sections on market futures, industry futures, investment futures and policy futures, with additional sections on carbon futures and urban energy futures.
