Regional Workshop Presents Transboundary Water Recommendations to ANBO

A regional workshop under the EU's ‘Strengthening Institutions for Transboundary Water Management in Africa' (SITWA) project aimed to help support development of the African Network for Basin Organizations (ANBO)'s ten-year strategy (2015-2025) and five-year action plan (2015-2020).

GWP Global logotype11 November 2014: A regional workshop in North Africa under the EU’s ‘Strengthening Institutions for Transboundary Water Management in Africa’ (SITWA) project aimed to help support development of the African Network for Basin Organizations (ANBO)’s ten-year strategy (2015-2025) and five-year action plan (2015-2020).

The workshop, held in Tunis, Tunisia, on 11 September 2014, brought together 15 representatives from regional river basin organizations (RBOs) and others, and was organized by the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med), WaterLex and the Platform for International Water Law, University of Geneva Faculty of Law. The meeting was one of five regional workshops feeding recommendations into the strategy and plan, which will be presented to the General Assembly of ANBO.

The draft ANBO strategy will strengthen: ANBO’s institutional, technical, knowledge-sharing and resources mobilization capacity; the institutional frameworks of basin organizations’ resources; basin organizations’ planning capacity, resources mobilization and implementation capacity; and the capacity of basin organizations to manage data, information and knowledge.
