Regional Workshop Addresses Forest Data Capacity in Indo-China

The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) reported on a regional workshop to strengthen forest statistics collection, analysis and reporting in Indo-China.

ITTO FAO3 October 2014: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) reported on a regional workshop to strengthen forest statistics collection, analysis and reporting in Indo-China.

The workshop included representatives from Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam, who discussed discrepancies with regard to trade data and committed to improve cooperation to address areas of discord and increase the quality of statistics. The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of participants to collect and validate forest data. Discussions were also held on avenues for closer collaboration between ITTO and the Government of China.

The workshop, part of FAO’s statistical capacity development programme, was held from 17-19 September 2014, in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. [ITTO Press Release] [FAO Press Release]
