story highlights

18 January 2012: The Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) organized a workshop in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on the topic of “Linking Open Data to Accelerate Low-Carbon Development.”

The workshop was attended by 20 major clean energy and development-related organizations interested in opening up their data sets in a machine-readable and standardized format to improve interaction between knowledge brokers and knowledge providers. Specifically, the workshop aimed to: present concepts behind Linked Open Data and highlight successful examples such as Open Government Data Portals, reegle, and OpenEI; discuss common concerns, legal issues and licensing questions; provide concrete insights on “how to do it;” and agree on what steps would be feasible and appropriate to take this agenda forward in the clean development arena.

The workshop also saw the release of REEGLE’s new publication: “Linked Open Data: The Essentials,“ which is a quick-start guide for decision-makers who need to quickly get up to speed with the LOD concept, and who want to make their government or organization a part of the movement.
