story highlights

21 June 2012: The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) hosted a speed brokering session to develop new business contacts in the energy, sustainable cities, and water sectors at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

The event, which marked REEEP’s 10th anniversary, used a unique design to allow participants to engage in short “speed dating” style interactions to promote partnerships and scaling up and replication of best practices in sustainable development. The event aimed to break away from the typical side event format of speaker panels and PowerPoint slides, and saw instead senior-level participants from government, civil society, academia, and business circulating through 12 seven-minute interviews designed to facilitate business networking.

REEEP Director General Martin Hiller said the speed brokering format, “is exactly the type of session we intend to hold alongside other major clean energy-related events. It plays to the REEEP strength in bringing diverse players together.” [REEEP Press Release]
