REEEP Announces Handbook on Energy Efficiency in South Africa
story highlights

The Handbook, the third volume of the Sustainable Energy Resource Handbook series, addresses South African energy use legislation and technical standards, energy modeling and optimization techniques, results from the National Energy Barometer Survey, and several energy saving technologies case studies and projects.

August 2012: The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) has announced the publication of the third volume of the Sustainable Energy Resource Handbook, devoted to energy efficiency in South Africa, and covers energy use legislation, and energy efficiency techniques and technologies.

The Handbook first addresses legislative initiatives on sustainable energy use and new standards for energy use in buildings. The book further focuses on energy modeling software and energy modeling in buildings, energy optimization techniques, green leasing, and results from the National Energy Barometer Survey. On technologies, the Handbook discusses case studies of, inter alia: water heating pumps; enterprise computer power management; optimization of water reticulation in deep mines; and LED system reliability. Finally, the book reports on an industrial energy efficiency project supported by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The Handbook is endorsed by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), the South African Department of Energy, and 49M, a South African national campaign to encourage energy efficient behavior. [Publication: Sustainable Energy Resource Handbook Volume 3]
