1 November 2011: The Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) and the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate closely in their open energy data initiatives.

Currently, NREL develops and maintains Open Energy Information (OpenEI) as part of the Open Government Initiative to provide access to energy data through linked open data standards. NREL is also developing the Clean Energy Solutions Center which is to act as a clearing house for renewable energy knowledge. REEEP has created and maintains the Clean Energy Info Portal (REEGLE), which employs open data technology to make international energy data accessible globally.

Amongst others, the MoU includes the following collaborative activities: integration of REEGLE with OpenEI and the Clean Energy Solutions Center; promoting low-carbon energy systems and raising the profile of local and regional expertise and projects; exchanging information to identify compatibilities and avoid overlapping actions; and jointly implementing events with shared objectives.
