Ramsar, UNESCO-IHE Establish the Ramsar Chair for the ‘Wise Use of Wetlands’

The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) has reported that it signed an agreement with the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Institute for Water Education (UNESCO-IHE) and Charles Sturt University establishing the Ramsar Chair for the 'Wise Use of Wetlands' during the Budapest High Level Water Summit.

ramsar-unesco15 October 2013: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) has reported that it signed an agreement with the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Institute for Water Education (UNESCO-IHE) and Charles Sturt University establishing the Ramsar Chair for the ‘Wise Use of Wetlands’ during the Budapest High Level Water Summit.

According to the Ramsar Secretariat, the professor appointed to the Ramsar Chair will collaborate with national and international organizations and experts to contribute to UNESCO-IHE’s work and the Ramsar Convention’s mission of promoting the conservation and wise use of wetlands.

The Chair will lead teaching modules, supervise PhD and MSc students, help partner organizations develop traditional and online training, and facilitate publications relevant to wetland research and conservation. [Ramsar Press Release] [IISD RS Coverage of the Budapest Water Summit]
