Ramsar STRP Newsletter Reports on its 17th Meeting

The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) has released the first issue for 2013 of the newsletter of its Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP), which features articles on the 17th meeting of the STRP, which was held in February 2013, Ramsar's engagement in the post-2015 development agenda consultation on water, and a key biodiversity area criteria and delineation workshop, which was held in March in Front Royal, Virginia, US.

8 April 2013: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) has released the first issue for 2013 of the newsletter of its Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP), which features articles on the 17th meeting of the STRP, which was held in February 2013, Ramsar’s engagement in the post-2015 development agenda consultation on water, and a key biodiversity area criteria and delineation workshop, which was held in March in Front Royal, Virginia, US.

The newsletter also reports on the participation of Ramsar officials in the Asia Water Week, which was organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines, from 13-15 March 2013; and the election of Randy Thaman, member of the Ramsar STRP, as a member of the first Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Multidisciplinary Expert Panel (MEP), which aims to ensure the scientific credibility and independence of IPBES work.

Other articles featured in the newsletter address, inter alia: the adoption of a national plan for the improvement of Ramsar site management in El Salvador; the launch of the Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) for Water and Wetlands report as part of 2013 World Wetlands Day celebrations; and the release of the sixth edition of the Ramsar Manual.
