The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in a journal article titled, 'A Holistic Approach to Enhance the Use of Neglected and Underutilized Species: the Case of Andean Grains in Bolivia and Peru,' identifies the weaknesses in siloing separate elements of conservation research, such as genetic diversity, selection, cultivation, harvest, value addition and marketing.
March 2014: A synthesis article on the approach and results of an International Fund for Agricultural Development-Neglected and Underutilized Species (IFAD-NUS) project in Bolivia and Peru has been published. Titled ‘A Holistic Approach to Enhance the Use of Neglected and Underutilized Species: The Case of Andean Grains in Bolivia and Peru,’ the article identifies the weaknesses in siloing separate elements of conservation research, such as genetic diversity, selection, cultivation, harvest, value addition and marketing.
The article suggests that activities should focus on integrating this range of issues in the conservation of agricultural diversity. The publication also discusses how these integrated activities resulted in greater uptake of Andean grains by farmers. Bioversity International is the global coordinator of the project.
