PIFS, SPC and UN Host National Consultations on Women’s Economic Empowerment

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the UN hosted a two-day consultation in Nauru, contributing to the national action plan on the economic empowerment of women.

The consultations are part of a Smaller Island States (SIS) project to advance gender equality.

27 April 2012: A two-day consultation in Nauru was conducted by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the UN, to map out a five-year national action plan on the economic empowerment of women. The consultation sought views from representatives of civil society organisations, government, academia and the informal and formal sectors, who spoke of achieving sustainable development through the economic empowerment of women.

The consultations are part of a Smaller Island States (SIS) project to advance gender equality by PIFS. Nauru’s national consultations were led by Nauru’s Ministry of Home Affairs, supported by PIFS and the SPC Regional Rights Resource Team, and funded by the UN Fund for Gender Equality.
