Paraguay Partially Lifts Voluntary Moratorium on Trade in CITES Species

In line with the recommendations of the December 2010 CITES regional workshop for Central and South America, Paraguay has communicated to the CITES Secretariat its decision to partially lift its voluntary moratorium on trade in CITES species.

19 January 2011: Paraguay has decided to partially lift its voluntary moratorium on trade in species covered by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Paraguay’s decision is in line with the recommendations of the CITES regional workshop for Central and South America, held from 7-9 December 2010, in Bogota, Colombia.

On 22 December 2010, Paraguay communicated to the CITES Secretariat its decision to: lift its voluntary suspension to allow trade in the stocks of legally acquired reptile skins; and authorize trade in essential oil and timber of Bulnesia sarmientoi. [The Notification]
