28 January 2013: ONE, a global grassroots campaign to end poverty, and partnering organizations from around the world, have released a report making several recommendations for the UN High-Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda (HLP). The recommendations suggest that transparency, accountability, and public participation should be at the center of a new global development framework.

In a series of five recommendations, the report focuses on agenda features that the HLP can suggest to UN Member States in its final report. The first recommendation suggests that a quantitative overview be made of consultation results, in order to ensure that citizens of developing countries are at the core of the new framework. On the subject of reporting, the ONE campaign recommends that reports on development goal investments be done on a consistent basis. The recommendations advise that Member States provide funds to increase the statistical and reporting capacity of developing countries. They also recommend increasing public participation in the post-2015 agenda through public monitoring and evaluation of the goals, as well as through online platforms for open data.

In a blog post about the report’s recommendations, Ben Leo, Global Policy Director at ONE, says “by implementing these proposed enhancements, the world can further maximize the impact of scarce development resources and accelerate progress in the fight against extreme poverty and other pressing priorities in the future.” [Publication: Open for Development] [ONE Blog Post]
