The purpose of the website is to demonstrate, using factsheets, how the oil and gas industry contributes to sustainable development. The documents focus on three themes: operating responsibly, enabling social development, and looking to the future.
23 April 2012: IPIECA, the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues, and the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP) have launched a mini-website on the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The mini-site makes available a series of factsheets aiming to demonstrate the industry’s current and future contributions to sustainable development, including its efforts to find and provide fuels in environmentally- and socially-responsible ways.
The documents focus on three main themes: “operating responsibly,” which covers issues such as energy efficiency, ecosystems, water, human rights, oil spill prevention and response, sustainability reporting, and lead phase-out; “enabling social development,” which covers issues such as social development, indigenous peoples and preventing corruption; and “looking to the future,” which covers issues such as energy outlook, climate change, partnerships and technology.
