OECD Paper Outlines Methods for Transitioning to Greener Growth in Slovakia

OECD at 5022 November 2011: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published a working paper titled “Reaping the Benefits of a Transition to Greener Growth in Slovakia.” The paper describes changes necessary for Slovakia to move towards a green economy by fostering eco-innovation.

The paper, written by Caroline Klein, contains sections on: overcoming challenges of climate change mitigation and improving energy efficiency; how to make economic growth more environmentally sustainable; developing green courses of long-term growth; and adapting to a green economy. The paper asserts that improving the environment for eco-innovation will be critical to addressing challenges posed to countries by greening their economies, and discusses the need for policy frameworks for eco-innovation, the development of appropriate financial incentives, fostering competition, and developing knowledge economies by increasing human capital. Recommendations focus on improving support mechanisms for, and lowering barriers to, innovation and research and development.
