3 April 2012: The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Mexico will implement a three-year project to provide technical assistance and collaboration with other Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) governments on energy efficiency and energy conservation policy and regulation.

As laid out by the OAS and the Government of Mexico, the project will involve workshops, exchange missions and seminars to share the experience and expertise of the region’s leaders in energy efficiency with other LAC governments seeking to build capacity and improve their own energy efficiency. Among other things, these activities will share best practices in the use of such policy tools as equipment energy efficiency certification, standards and labels, the Energy Service Company (ESCO) business model, and public awareness campaigns.

Announced following an Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) workshop, held on 21-22 March in Mexico City, which showcased Mexico’s work on energy efficiency and conservation, the project will be funded by the US Department of State but conducted under the ECPA framework.
