November 2012: Natural Resources Forum (NRF) has issued a special section on sustainable development scenarios. NRF is a quarterly journal published by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Division for Sustainable Development (DSD).

The article “Beyond Rio: Sustainable energy scenarios for the 21st century” emphasizes the four main energy challenges faced by society in the 21st century: providing universal access to modern energy for all; reducing the impacts of energy production on human health and the environment; avoiding dangerous climate change; and enhancing energy security.

The article “Consistent assessments of pathways toward sustainable development and climate stabilization” highlights that a delicately balanced approach to economic growth will be necessary for sustainable development and responses to climate change.

The article “Climate, land, energy and water interlinkages in Burkina Faso” notes that without an integrated and coordinated approach, strategy and policy formulation efforts to increase energy, food and water security could become both incoherent and counter-productive.
