NREL Joins Global Alliance of Solar Energy Research Institutes

The newly-formed Global Alliance of Solar Energy Research Institutes, which also comprises a German and Japanese research center, will stimulate the exchange of researchers.

It aims to promote research on and use of solar energy.

The US formalized its participation during the Intersolar North America Exhibition and Conference, in San Francisco, US.

10 July 2012: The US Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) announced that it has joined the newly-formed Global Alliance of Solar Energy Research Institutes, which aims to stimulate joint solar research and progress toward increased use of solar energy.

Other Alliance members include the German Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, and the Japanese Research Center for Photovoltaic Technologies, which is a research unit of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. The main goals of the Alliance are to stimulate solar energy research, progress towards energy development goals, and increased use of solar energy. The cooperation entails the exchange of researchers for up to two years.
