action_campaign2 August 2016: The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Action campaign, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and UN Global Pulse have launched the next phase of MY World. ‘MY World 2030′ will support efforts to report on progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and mobilize and build dialogue among decision-makers.

To contribute to reporting on progress, MY World 2030 will collect globally comparable data on how people feel their lives are changing, using MY World Community. The UN SDG Action campaign will lead efforts to produce three comparable questions, via myworld.2030.org, that are available in multiple languages. Different “channel” options are available for country teams to carry out national surveys on how people feel their lives are changing across all 17 SDGs through MY World Scientific and, via the MY World National Editions, to provide survey design advice, communications and campaigning support to advocacy groups.

Using MY World Big Data, UN Global Pulse will support country teams to carry out big data searches using a variety of data sources. Data generated through these channels is expected to be nationally representative and scalable, and to contribute to monitoring and implementing the SDGs.

To build dialogue among parliamentarians, local governments, mayors and citizens, particularly youth, MY World 2030 will generate a people’s perspective on how to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and establish accountability mechanisms. This information will be aggregated at national, regional and global levels.

The MY World 2030 survey begins by asking participants if they are aware of the 2030 Agenda. It then asks respondents to select the six SDGs of immediate concern to them and their family. The survey asks if the situation on chosen Goals has gotten better, stayed the same, or gotten worse over the past 12 months. Finally, respondents provide basic data on their gender, age, education level, country, city, and any disability. Users can then view aggregated responses.

Speaking during the MY World 2o3o launch event, held in New York, US, on 18 July 2016, Rosemary Kalapurakal, UNDP, said “MY World is an opportunity to hear from voices across the spectrum, voices of the people who really shifted this agenda.” Other speakers highlighted: the need for collaboration to ensure the continued spirit of the MY World campaign; the role of MY World in monitoring awareness, satisfaction and progress; and the importance of engaging all individuals to ensure no one is left behind. Partners shared preliminary results and lessons learned from early pilot testing and other studies.

The UN designed the MY World 2015 survey to bring people’s voices into the deliberations on the SDGs. Nearly ten million people responded to the survey, and the results contributed to the political process for creating the SDGs. [SDG Action Campaign Press Release] [MY World 2030 Survey]
