Mongolia and Luxembourg have ratified the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, bringing the total number of ratifications to 14.
21 May, 2013: Mongolia and Luxembourg have ratified the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, bringing the total number of ratifications to 14.
Adopted at the fifth Meeting of the Parties (MOP 5) to the Biosafety Protocol, in Nagoya, Japan, in 2010, the Supplementary Protocol provides for international rules and procedures for liability and redress in the event of damage resulting from living modified organisms (LMOs). It will enter into force once 40 countries have ratified. In addition to the 14 countries that have already ratified, 40 countries have expressed their intention to ratify by signing the Supplementary Protocol. [List of signatures and ratifications]
