“Making it Happen” Highlights High-level Dialogue on IFSD, SIDS Preparations
story highlights

The newsletter announces upcoming meetings for small island developing States (SIDS) to prepare for the UNCSD and a high-level dialogue in Indonesia on the institutional framework for sustainable development.

Rio+2017 June 2011: The latest issue of “Rio+20: Making It Happen,” the newsletter from the Secretariat of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), highlights ceremonies to mark the beginning of the one-year countdown until UNCSD takes place. It also announces an upcoming high-level dialogue on the institutional framework for sustainable development (IFSD).

IFSD is one of the two themes of the UNCSD. The Dialogue will be organized by the Government of Indonesia and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), and will take place from 19-21 July 2011.

The newsletter also calls attention to Preparatory Meetings at the sub-regional level for small island developing States (SIDS), and notes that the three sub-regional preparatory meetings will be followed by a SIDS inter-regional preparatory meeting in September 2011. Also included in the newsletter are: an update on the activities of Elizabeth Thompson, UNCSD Executive Coordinator, who recently addressed a meeting of Business Action for Sustainable Development (BASD); a list of upcoming UNCSD-related events; and an invitation to join UNCSD-L, a community announcement listserve for policy makers and practitioners of sustainable development and knowledge-sharing tool, managed by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) Reporting Services.
