Major Groups Identify Actions to Improve Rio+20 Participation

27 January 2012: In a joint statement to the Bureau of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), the nine Major Groups identified actions that would facilitate their participation in the Rio+20 process and make it more effective.

In the statement, made on 27 January 2012, during a meeting with the Bureau, the Groups called for: access to the informal negotiations on the zero draft of the UNCSD Outcome Document; the opportunity to hold a multi-stakeholder dialogue on a specific topic during the Third Intersessional Meeting in March 2012; closer liaisons between the Bureau and Major Groups; and adequate funding for Rio+20, including funding for Major Group participants to attend the Conference.
