31 January 2013: The Low Emission Development Strategies Global Partnership (LEDS GP) has launched the LEDS Expert Assistance on Finance, a no-cost finance advisory service for developing country government agencies and supporting technical institutes involved in LEDS preparation and implementation.

The service draws on a network of finance professionals from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Climate Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and other organizations to provide virtual consultation via phone or email on LEDS financing strategies, policies, and programmes.

The service also links country teams with existing international programmes for more in-depth assistance. Specific forms of assistance include: review of draft financing strategies; compilation of information on financing, investment, and funding options; advice on policies and measures for mobilizing investment; and identification of capacity-building opportunities.

LEDS GP was established in 2011 to advance low emissions development through coordination, information exchange, and cooperation among programmes and countries working to advance low emissions growth. The partnership currently includes 102 governmental and international institutions, and includes regional platforms for Latin American and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia.
