leds_slocat20 October 2015: A webcast regional workshop, sponsored by the Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) and several other partners, discussed prospects in Latin America for sustainable transport actions to mitigate climate change. The workshop was held on 13 October 2015, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and was webcast to 75 participants in 15 Latin American countries by Finanzas Carbono.

The workshop examined the level of ambition in sustainable transport among Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries in their nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) and the targets they are setting in their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) for the post-2020 climate regime. It opened with a brief overview of the work of the workshop sponsors, the Regional Platform for Low Emission Development Strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean (LEDS LAC), SLoCaT and the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), as well as the Paris Process on Mobility and Climate (PPCM) platform on sustainable transport and climate change created by SLoCaT and the Michelin Challenge Bibendum (MCB).

SLoCaT presented the results of a study financed by the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), ‘The Transport Sector in National Reports to the UNFCCC, Emission Trends and Mitigation Options in Latin American and Caribbean Countries.’ Chile, Colombia and Guatemala then presented actions they are undertaking in sustainable transport to mitigate climate change, and the challenges and barriers faced. This was followed by a discussion moderated by SLoCaT.

LEDS LAC is a platform for exchanging experiences, best practices and lessons learned; capacity building; and coordination and collaboration in the formulation and implementation of LEDS. Finanzas Carbono is the knowledge exchange platform on climate finance in LAC created by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). [SLoCaT Release] [Workshop Recording and Presentations]
