Kyrgyzstan Joins CMS as 120th Member State

The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) announced that Kyrgyzstan has deposited the instrument of accession to the Convention.

The accession will be effective 1 May 2014.

CMS7 March 2014: The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) announced that Kyrgyzstan has deposited the instrument of accession to the Convention. The accession will be effective 1 May 2014.

Kyrgyzstan hosts many migratory species that are covered under the CMS. In 2011, Kyrgyzstan hosted the range States of argali, an Appendix II species, to discuss a draft international Action Plan for the conservation of this species. In 2013, it brought together snow leopard range States to start a global conservation initiative for this species, which is listed under Appendix I of CMS, as well as for high-mountain ecosystems.
