January 2012: The Energy Center of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana, is organizing several short training courses and workshops on renewable energy technologies, policy and economics.
Depending on their topic, the courses and workshops are aimed variously at: power and transmission utilities, engineers and scientists, researchers, graduate students, policymakers, planners and energy institutions. Regarding content, topics of the short courses include: solar thermal power technologies; installation and monitoring of grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) systems; energy policy and planning; renewable energy project analysis; design and installation of stand-alone solar PV systems; biofuels technology and economics; and biogas systems design and construction. Topics of the workshops include second generation biofuels and an international solar energy experts workshop.
KNUST is a Ghanaian research center providing training, research and advisory services to public, private, and non-governmental actors in energy technology, policy, management and dissemination of best practices. It is supported by the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the European Union and Hewitt Packard.
