Kiribati will receive EUR 0.5 million through the EU-funded Global Climate Change Alliance: Pacific Small Island States (GCCA: PSIS) project to improve environmental health surveillance and response to climate-sensitive health risks.
27 June 2013: Kiribati will receive €0.5 million through the EU-funded Global Climate Change Alliance: Pacific Small Island States (GCCA: PSIS) project to improve environmental health surveillance and response to climate-sensitive health risks.
According to an agreement between the Government of Kiribati and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the GCCA: PSIS implementing partner, Kiribati will receive funds to finance measures including: the refurbishing of heath facilities; acquisition of new equipment; the establishment of a new specialized laboratory; and technical assistance from the SPC Public Health Division and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The programme aims to enable Kiribati to meet minimum international standards in the areas of food and water safety and vector control, including monitoring and responding to vector-borne diseases and other climate-sensitive health impacts. [SPC Press Release] [GCCA: PSIS Website]
