Kenyan Delegation Consults NBI Secretariat on Information Management

The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) Secretariat (Nile-SEC) has reported on a five-day visit with a delegation from Kenya's Ministry of East African Community (EAC), aimed at strengthening the information and communication technology (ICT) section of the Ministry by learning from the NBI's experiences in knowledge management.

31 January 2013: The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) Secretariat (Nile-SEC) has reported on a five-day visit with a delegation from Kenya’s Ministry of East African Community (EAC), aimed at strengthening the information and communication technology (ICT) section of the Ministry by learning from the NBI’s experiences in knowledge management.

During the visit, the Kenyan delegation met with the Water Resources Management Team of the Nile-SEC to exchange experiences in information managament. The Nile-SEC team shared various parts of its Knowledge Management system through presentations and hands-on demonstrations, including the Nile Information System (Nile-IS) and Decision Support System (DSS).

At a meeting organized by the UN Economic Community for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union (AU)/UN Regional Coordination Mechanism for Africa in November 2012, the NBI was selected to lead the thematic areas of Water Resource Management and Development and Knowledge Management and Information Sharing under the Sub-Regional Coordination Mechanism (SRCM) for Eastern and Southern Africa, two of the SRCM’s 12 thematic areas under its Business Plan for 2013-2017.
